EVENTS
The Domestic Violence Resource Service and the Mackay Women’s Sexual Assault Service run events and activities throughout the year to coincide with worldwide or national awareness days and months.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
At Mackay Women’s Services we support the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The 16 Days of Activism is an international event, which runs from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day. This is to highlight the fact that violence against women is the most pervasive breach of human rights in the world.
The theme of this year’s campaign is Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!
In 2020, violence against women and girls, especially domestic and family violence has increased.
According to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Campaign UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the key risk factors for violence against women and girls and humanity is running a risk of reversing decades of progress in the fight against poverty and exacerbating already high levels of inequality.
