MEN’S PROGRAM
The Domestic Violence Resource Service (Mackay & Region) runs programs for men in the Whitsundays and the Isaac mining region.
The ‘Shifting Gears’ Men’s Behaviour Change Program has now been introduced in the Whitsundays.
Men’s counsellors can be found at the following locations from Wednesday through to Friday:
- Bowen Courthouse on Wednesday and Thursday.
- Proserpine Courthouse on Thursday and Friday (morning only).
- Cannonvale Courthouse on Thursday and Friday (afternoons only).
The Bowen, Proserpine and Airlie Beach communities have been very supportive in working with the Domestic Violence service to improve safety for individuals, relationships and families.
The ‘Stepping Up’ Men’s Behaviour Change Program was introduced in December 2017 with Mike as the coordinator of the program.
The program is offered to work directly with men throughout the Isaac mining region who have identified as currently using violence within their relationships, while providing opportunities for men to understand better the impact violence has on their families/relationships. This services is available at no cost to participants.
